high school age usa
At the age of five or six, the children attend elementary school (also known as grade school or grammar school), which last six years. The fist year at elementary school is called kindergarten.
In the USA, children start school when they are five or six years old. Depending on the state, schooling is compulsory until the age of 16 or 18. Children younger than five can go to a nursery school or preschool.
Eighth (or 8th) grade is a year of education in the United States. The eighth grade is the final grade before high school, and the ninth grade of public and private education, following kindergarten and subsequent grades. (Although it may be considered the tenth or eleventh if preschool has been attended.) Most students are between thirteen and fourteen years old. Eighth grade is usually the fourth and final grade of middle school, although some systems mark it as the final year of elementary school.
The eighth grade mathematics curriculum in the United States includes either Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, or Geometry. Occasionally Algebra II is also taught in very advanced schools. In some schools, especially the ones that are witnessing the required Basic Standards Test, basic everyday “real world” mathematical skills such as check writing, money management, and geometry are taught as well.
For those wishing to enter the teacher’s profession, various benefits and a constantly improving work environment are offered. As of 2018, the average teachers’ salary in the United States was one of the highest in the world. Teachers working in a public elementary school had an average salary of 83,585 U.S. dollars in the state of New York. Another positive aspect was the increasing expenditure on public and private elementary schools. In 2016, expenditure per pupil had nearly doubled since 1998.
The curriculum of the public school system in the U.S. is determined by local authorities under district or state control. Each state selects course texts and curriculum literature that reflect its learning standards. Different educational methods between states have their effects on how teaching and learning take place, resulting in inconsistencies nationwide. Thus, teachers play an important role in the overall quality of education. According to 2019 data, the number of teachers in elementary schools has been on a steady upward trajectory in the recent years, having a positive impact on the teacher pupil ratio.
